Instructions

    • 1

Choose a rental agency. Most major rental agencies have similar rental policies. Major rental agencies include Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and Avis.

    • 2

Contact your chosen car rental agency. Check on the agency's special rates, hotel and flight packages, car availability and location of the rental agency. Lock down the best deal for you and your friend.

    • 3

Choose the pickup time and date as well as the return time and date. Consider when your friend is available to pick up the rented car with you; your friend will be required to show a valid driver's license and sign the reservation contract. Some rental agencies offer pickup services; check with your agency to see if that service is available.

    • 4

Pick the car size. Rates will depend on whether you choose a compact, mid-size, full-size or luxury car. Consider what the car is being used for, how much gas the car requires and number of passengers.

    • 5

Make the reservation. Have a major credit card and a valid driver's license available. You will be renting the car under your name and information. Your friend must be available at the time the reservation is made with his valid driver's license, if you are reserving at the rental agency counter.

    • 6

Reserve the car online. Your friend must be available at the time of pickup. There are additional fees involved when adding additional drivers; for example, Budget charges $13 per additional driver per day. Exemptions to additional driver fees include: renter's employer, corporate accounts with business travelers, renter's spouse or domestic partner, to name a few. Check your rental agency's terms and conditions regarding additional drivers, as fees change per state and situation. Have your major credit card and valid driver's license available.
