Obtain an International Driver's License or International Driving Permit. This is basically a certificate which verifies the authenticity of your driver's license and translates it into multiple languages so that officers in other countries will be able to read your identification information. It is slightly larger than a standard state-issued driver's license, and is valid for one year (see Resources).
Ensure you meet the minimum qualifications for car rental in Spain. You must be over the age of 21 and be in possession of a valid driving license from your own country, have a current passport and be able to present a major credit card (American Express, Master Card or Visa) at the time of vehicle pickup.
Visit a travel company website, such as Travelocity, Orbitz, Kayak or Expedia. Car reservations in Spain can be arranged via these websites. Rental charges are automatically converted to the currency of your home country, so you'll know how much it's going to cost.
Go directly to an international car rental corporation, such as Hertz, Alamo, Europcar, Budget, Avis or National. They can arrange a rental in Spain over the phone, at their reservations desks or through their websites. Many car rental agencies also allow you to redeem your frequent flyer miles in exchange for a car rental, or offer customer loyalty discounts.
Select the dates you would like the car and choose your pickup and drop-off locations. Many people choose the airport for the sake of convenience, but if you're arriving by train, bus or car, there may be options nearer to your transportation hub. Also, in many cases, you do not have to pickup and drop-off at the same location, though there may be additional fee for one-way travel.
