Gateway Clipper Cruises for Children

The Gateway Clipper Fleet is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. These Mississippi-style riverboats are driven by giant paddle wheels. The captain points out fun and historic facts about the city and its history as it sails the Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio rivers. In addition to party and romantic cruises for adults, the Gateway Clipper Fleet offers a variety of cruises for children that feature shows, clowns, ice cream socials, educational sightseeing tours and special school events.
  1. Kid's Showtime Cruise

    • Children enjoy Rita's Italian Ice aboard this two-hour cruise while being entertained by shows performed by the Gemini Theater Company. The shows vary throughout the year and may include adventures of pirates, mermaids or jungle safaris. This cruise offers birthday party packages.

    Lock and Dam Tour

    • The three-hour Lock and Dam cruise takes you further up the Monongahela River than most of the other cruises. You'll experience first hand the process called locking as you go through a lock. You'll get a glimpse of the post steel industry riverfront as the captain narrates the history of Pittsburgh and its three rivers. The Allegheny, Monongahela and Ohio River's navigation system include 23 locks and dams.

    School Events

    • The Gateway Clipper Fleet can accommodate groups of any size. It offers educational cruises that depart from the Heinz Field Docking location. Many student field trips combine the riverboat sightseeing experience with north shore attractions such as the Heinz Field, National Aviary, PNC Park or the Andy Warhol museum.
