How to Ride Public Transportation in Indianapolis (IndyGo)

Indianapolis Public transportation (IndyGo) goes to most of the major attractions in the city as well as its universities and public schools. The "hub" is in downtown Indianapolis, so the vast majority of the buses either stop there or have connections to downtown. As of 2011, IndyGo claimed to have more than 4,000 bus stops.

Visit the IndyGo website at indygo.net. Click on "Maps & Schedules" for a guide to the current bus schedules. Find the time points on the schedule to determine what bus line is nearest to your present location and which one will take you to your destination.

Go to an IndyGo bus stop, which is marked by a green and blue sign. The blue part notes what routes use that stop. Get to the stop at least five minutes early. Check the display panel at the top of the bus to confirm you have the right bus.

Pay the exact fare unless you have an IndyGo pass. As of 2011, a full price for a single ride was $1.75. A day pass cost $4. A 10-trip pass cost $17.50, and a month pass cost $30. Up to two children under age 5 can ride free with an adult. A half-fare program is available for those over 65, under 18, or with disabilities.
