How much does it cost to ride the Washington DC metro?

Washington D.C. Metro Fare Information

* Base Fare: $2.00

* Peak Fares: $3.00 (Monday - Friday, 5 am - 9:30 am and 3:00 pm - 7 pm)

* Off-Peak Fares: $2.00 (Monday - Friday, 9:30 am - 3:00 pm and after 7 pm; All day Saturday, Sunday, and federal holidays)

* Senior/Disabled/Student Fares: $1.00 (Off-Peak only; valid with a valid SmarTrip card)

_SmarTrip Card_

- A SmarTrip card is required to ride the Washington, DC Metro. These cards can be purchased and refilled at any Metro station.

- There is a $10 refundable deposit for a SmarTrip card, and cards can be refilled with any amount between $5 and $300.

- When using a SmarTrip card, fares are automatically deducted from the card balance as you enter and exit stations.

_Fares for Specific Distances_

- Fares are also based on the distance traveled. The base fare of $2.00 applies for trips up to 3.5 miles. For each additional mile, an additional $0.25 is added to the fare.

- The maximum fare is $6.00, which applies for trips over 13 miles.

- Transfers are free between Metrorail lines and most Metrobus lines.
