When to Repack RV Wheel Bearings?

Recreational vehicle wheel bearings take on more stress than normal sized vehicles, so proper inspection on a regular basis is necessary for the safety of the RV's occupants.
  1. Function

    • Repacking bearings is simply pulling the bearings off each wheel, inspecting for any damage from wear and greasing the assembly for proper mobility within each bearing.

    Time Frame

    • For those vehicles that ride out a few times a year, a service schedule of once a year would suffice. If a RV is used much more, as in a high mileage vehicle, it should be inspected multiple times a year.

    Features

    • In addition to keeping the bearings serviced and free from moisture damage from storage, repacking the bearings also allows a view of the brake system on each wheel. Since a RV carries a heavy load, brake safety is of extreme importance. By inspecting both the bearings and the brakes on each wheel together, assures the driver of the safety of his RV.
