Contact RV dealerships or rental agencies in Ventura County, such as 1st Choice RV (1stchoicerv.com) or RV Rentals of America (rvrentalsofamerica.com/ventura-ca-rv-rental) and ask how many RVs they have available for rental, what size RVs they have for rental, and whether you can take one for a test drive.
Test drive a unit that fits your budget and needs. You must be able to handle such a large vehicle and should take it out before you rent it for a family trip. Ask to see the most recent inspection report and mechanical report to avoid renting and RV with known issues or problems that can force you off the road when you are traveling.
Create an itinerary for your trip. From Ventura County, determine how long you expect to need the RV and roughly how many miles you will be travelling, and estimate how much you will spend on fuel during your RV trip. The number of days, miles traveled and mechanical upkeep required can affect the cost of renting an RV. Ask the rental agent if the agency has any special requirements you will need to fulfill, such as submitting an itinerary or taking an RV safety class, before you will be able to rent an RV.
Present your driver's license and current automobile insurance card to the rental agent. Your license does not have to be from California to rent, but If you are from another state, your license must be current in that state. You also must show proof of valid and current insurance in your home state. You may be able to purchase insurance for the RV directly from the rental company in addition to your personal coverage. The dealership or agency will also require a credit card and a second form of ID, such as a bank credit card or work ID with a photo, to cover the deposit and finalize the rental agreement.
Read the entire rental agreement before you sign it. Make sure you understand exactly what California law and the rental agreement specify that you are responsible for and what the rental company will cover. If something happens while you have the RV, you will need to be aware of the responsibilities of both parties in the contract.
