A Class C license is the basic California driver's license. Drivers with this license may drive two-axle RVs under 26,000 lbs. or three-axle vehicles under 6,000 lbs. They may drive motor homes 40 feet long or shorter and tow trailers under 10,000 lbs.
To get this license, simply follow the requirements to get a standard California driver's license: fill out the application; submit the fee, fingerprints, Social Security number, proof of birth date and residency; pass a vision test; and pass the written and skills test.
A driver holding a noncommercial Class B license may drive Class C RVs or motor homes between 40 and 45 feet long. They may also tow Class C vehicles.
For get this license, the driver must complete an application, pay a fee and pass the Class C test. The driver must also submit a Physician's Health Report and pass a vision test. During testing, the driver must perform a vehicle safety check, pass the driver's examination for a 45-foot housecar, pass a skills test and pass a driving test.
A driver with this license may drive any Class C vehicle. Most motor homes, besides commercial-size buses, fall into this class. The driver may tow a travel trailer weighing more than 10,000 lbs. or fifth-wheel travel trailer more than 15,000 lbs.
To obtain this license complete the application, pay the fee and pass the Class C test; submit a health questionnaire and pass a vision test; pass a pre-trip inspection test, skills test, the noncommercial Class A vehicle test and a driving test with the motor home or towing the travel trailer.
