Turn off the power to the air conditioning unit.
Use a can of compressed air and blow dust and debris off the condenser coil. Although this should be part of regular maintenance of the unit, smoke will settle in any dust buildup. Access the coil based on the instructions provided with the air conditioner. It may require unscrewing the front grille and pulling the piece off.
Remove the filter from the AC unit. The method used for the removal of the filter will depend on the model air conditioner in the RV. Follow the instructions provided with the unit. Most require you to remove the grille and pull the filter off the back. If the filter is disposable, replace it.
Wash reusable filters out with water and a mild dish soap. Let the filter dry completely before reinstalling it.
Fill a bucket with warm water, one cup of white vinegar and one tbsp. of baking soda. Wipe the surface of the air conditioner down with this solution using a clean cloth or sponge. Clean all regions of the machine including any grids. Wipe down the condenser coil as well. Dry the surfaces with a clean towel.
Use the vinegar solution to clean the interior of the RV. Removing the smoke from the air conditioner may not be enough. If the odor is set in the surface of the vehicle, once the air circulates, it will in the unit again.
Steam clean the upholstery inside the RV. Rent a steam-cleaning unit and clean the fabric regions of the RV thoroughly. This should include any carpeted areas.
Wash any free fabrics in the washing machine. This would include curtains, tablecloths and bed sheets.
