How to Clean RV Condensing Units

Regular maintenance of the air conditioner of your RV helps to keep it working properly and keeps the cost of repairs down. Cleaning the condenser of the air conditioner is an important part of this. Make sure the fins on the unit are always cleaned. A good time to do this is when you clean the air filter. Dirt and debris in the condenser reduce air flow which decreases the unit's ability to cool the RV.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the air conditioner completely off and disconnect the power supply.

    • 2

Unscrew the shroud (air conditioner cover) using a screwdriver. Remove the shroud; it should lift off.

    • 3

Locate the condenser located near the rear of the unit. Make sure the fins are not bent; if they are try straightening with the flat screwdriver. If several are bent, use a fine comb (purchase at air-conditioning supply stores). Place the comb against the fins so that the prongs fit between the fins and move it back and forth.

    • 4

Brush off any debris with the paintbrush.

    • 5

Replace the shroud. Screw the shroud securely into place.
