How to Remove Old Sealant From a Motorhome
When you fix or prevent a leak or replace a window or exhaust vent in an RV, you have to remove the old sealant because the new sealant will not stick to it. Removing the sealant is not difficult, but it can be tedious.
- Plastic putty knife
- Utility knife
- Mild soap
- Water
- Clean rags

Locate the spot of the leak.

Use a putty knife get under the old sealant, being careful not to rip the rubber membrane or go through the fiberglass. Pull up the sealant that needs to be replaced.

Check to see that all the bad sealant is removed.

Wipe down the area with soap and water and let dry.

Replace with new sealant.
