How to Remove Moisture From a Transit Case

Modern transit cases contain multiple compartments for travel items and layers of foam to cushion and insulate belongings. Though many transit cases are waterproof, leaking travel items such as water bottles or toiletries can spread moisture inside the travel case and under the compartments and cushioning. Moisture trapped in a travel case can cause mildew and musty odors. To preserve the transit case's quality, it is best to remove moisture as soon as possible.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the travel case and leave it open. Remove the case's plastic inserts and foam insulation from the travel case and lay them in a single layer on a flat surface in a cool, dry, well-ventilated room. To improve ventilation, run fans in the direction of the travel case and its components.

    • 2

Pour out any liquid inside the case and sop up additional liquid with a soft sponge. If the case or its components are dirty, wash them off with soapy water.

    • 3

Soak case components in a 25 percent solution of white vinegar if they have a musty mildew smell. Allow them to air dry. If the case itself has a musty odor, wipe it down with a vinegar solution and leave it open to air dry.
