The two most common diesel engines are Cummins and Caterpillar. Though there are differences, both are excellent engines.
Cummins is a good choice if you are a fan of the sound of straight pipe engines. Catepillar engines are much louder with a deeper boom.
The Caterpillar engine is more expensive and more costly to repair. They have more power and torque, which results in better mileage.
Cummins and Caterpillar both have expectational reputations. They both stand behind their engines which both are hard runners. If properly maintained, either will last for a long time.
Aside from repair costs and sound, there is little difference between the two engines. It all comes down to personal reference.
