Camper Brake Problems

RVs, or campers, are either automobiles converted into mobile living spaces, or trailers for camping that are towed behind a regular car. Many see RVs as a way to leave behind the routines of their stationary existences and hit the highways for the the adventurous rambling life. However, many prospective RVers do not realize that campers require a good deal of maintenance and upkeep in order to fulfill the dream of freedom on the open road.
  1. Features

    • Campers, or RVs, come in a range of sizes and types. They break down into two main categories: towable and motorized. Towable campers are dwellings on wheels that can be towed by an automobile, but have no driving capability of their own. Motorized campers are those that combine automobile and mobile home into one vehicle, with living spaces set behind a cab mirroring that of an automobile.

    Problems

    • A variety of exterior and interior problems can plague your RV. Brake problems are among the most dangerous. RVs share the same sets of brake problems with regular automobiles, and they can be remedied using the same methods as you would on any car. However, RVs may have to be taken to a special RV shop in order to be repaired, as many auto body shops are not equipped to perform brake work on these vehicles.

    Prevention/Solution

    • Exterior problems (detritus, animal droppings, etc.) plaguing your RV can be solved by simple preventative steps such as covering the vehicle with a tarp and performing proper maintenance regularly. Proper maintenance can also go a long way toward preventing more serious interior problems, especially those having to do with the brakes. Treating an RV like you would the car you depend on to get to work is the best policy to prevent or solve automotive problems. Timely upkeep and careful attention to all parts, inside and out, of your RV will ensure you a smooth RVing experience.

    Considerations

    • An RV is an investment. Along with buying a car, you are also buying a house. The maintenance to keep an RV road-worthy is considerable. Because of the nature of RVing, you may find yourself on deserted roads or in places far from any sort of automotive aid when breakdowns or engine trouble happen. Prospective RVers should have a solid handle on basic car repair, as well as considerable knowledge of the RV they intend to purchase.

    Benefits

    • RVs provide the luxury of nonstop travel anytime and anywhere, and the pleasure of owning and maintaining a vehicle, and a home, of your own, never having to worry about lodging for the night. In the long term, they provide a considerable amount of freedom in both your travel itinerary and logistics, not to mention significant savings of money otherwise spent on hotel rooms and car rentals.
