Go to the IRCTC Online Passenger Reservation System and register a new account. There are no registration fees. Use your newly created ID and password to log in.
Enter your starting point and destination in the 'Plan My Travel' box. City names and corresponding station codes appear in the drop-down box. Choose your desired locations. Indicate the date of travel. Choose i-ticket in the 'Ticket Type' field and choose your quota. The quota is the the fare that you are going to pay for your ticket from lowest to highest in price.
Click 'Find Trains' to check the list of trains in your desired route. Click reset to enter information again. Click the question mark icon to have options explained.
Click the train name on the results page of 'Find Trains.' This section displays a list of trains for the specified route and details such as train type and schedule. To find the fare, click the train class that is listed as available. The result indicates the fare for the selected class for one adult, excluding the IRCTC service charges and the credit/debit card charges levied by the bank.
Select the train you want by clicking on the available class. Click 'Book' to book the ticket. Click Reset to re-enter information.
Check if the details displayed match the information you entered. The ticket reservation page is displayed. Enter passenger details and the berth preferred. Check the senior citizen option, or enter details of child passengers under age 5, if applicable.
Select 'Make Payment' to proceed. Ticket details along with the fare (including service charges) appear. Select your payment method from the options provided and make the payment. A confirmation page indicates successful ticket booking.
