Log onto amtrak.com.

Request a refund. According to the Amtrak website, a cancellation does not necessarily imply a refund. However, if your cancellation occurs a month or more in advance, you can get a 90% refund (there's a 10% cancellation charge that is taken out of your refund). If you cancel within the first 10 days of the month of your trip, you can get a 40% refund. If you cancel after the 10th day of the month of your trip, you will not get any refund at all.
