Call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL or visit Amtrak's web site in the "Resources" section below. On the web site, you can book your train reservations via Amtrak's Fare Finder. You can also navigate the site if you have a PDA, Blackberry or other handheld device.
If you ordered your tickets online or by phone, pick them up at a ticket agent or at one of the Quik-Trak kiosks that can be found at many Amtrak locations (you'll need to enter your reservation number). If you've booked your trip far in advance, you can also request that your tickets be mailed to you.
You can check up to three pieces of luggage per person, but make sure each piece does not exceed 50 pounds or you will be charged more money.
Allow for a one- or two-hour layover in Seattle. Enjoy a cup of coffee at or around the Seattle train station; there are least five coffee houses in the immediate vicinity.
Enjoy the foliage if you're traveling in autumn. Most of the deciduous trees will be yellow, but you will also see an occasional sugar maple with deep red leaves.
Find the quiet car. Some Amtrak trains have these cars, which do not allow cell phone conversations or any noise other than quiet talking.
Make lunch or dinner reservations. Most long-distance trains feature a dining car, and it's best to make a reservation as soon as you board with the designated porter.
