How to Book Train Travel From Toronto to Montreal

  1. Choose a Railway Line

      Jump on board a VIA Rail Canada train bound for Montreal. The Toronto station is located at 65 Front Street West across from the Royal York Hotel and between Bay and York Streets.

      Book your reservations at the station ticket counter that opens at 6:00 a.m. on weekdays, 6:30 a.m. on Saturday and 7:00 a.m. on Sundays. Among other services, the station is equipped with a restaurant, snack bar, bicycle box, baggage room, ATM and an elevator for the handicapped.

      Note that there are six trains running on weekdays, four on Saturday and five on Sunday. The trains leave in intervals of 2 to 4 hours.

      Arrive in Montreal from Toronto in between 4 hours to a little over 5 hours depending on the timetable of the train you choose.

      Find train schedules online and print them out or download them to your PDA or computer for handy access. You can also call 888-842-7245 for an up-to-date train schedule.

    Select Traveling Class

      Indulge in the VIA 1 class and enjoy first class surroundings including wireless Internet access, a roomy and comfortable seat, three-course meal and access to the Panorama Lounge at the train station.

      Decide to book your train travel in Comfort class and take advantage of the inexpensive prices yet comfortable seating. Comfort class also allows you switch your train departure as long as it is on the same day the original ticket was for.

      Know when you book your reservation from Toronto to Montreal that not all of the trains offer assigned seating. Avoid having to fight for a seat by picking the train with assigned seats.

    Purchase Tickets

      Take advantage of a great deal by purchasing the Corridorpass rail pass for travel in southern Quebec and southern Ontario. You can pick up a pass for a little over $250 for one adult and unlimited travel from Toronto to Montreal for 10 days.

      Pay for a one-way ticket from Toronto to Montreal in Comfort class for between about $80 and $125 and a VIA 1 class ticket from $150 to $200.

      Be careful not to lose your ticket or you'll have to buy another ticket and may have to pay more for buying closer to or on the day of your trip. You can submit a claim form for the missing ticket, but the process will take up to 90 days and you will be charged $35 per ticket for processing unless VIA Rail was at fault.
