Gather rigid boxes of various sizes. Arrange your goods neatly; do not fill any box to the very top or force objects in. The heavier the item, the smaller the box you should place it in. Do not toss everything into one large box.
Place packing peanuts around any items that can be damaged in transit. Wrap fragile items, such as glasses and plates, individually in newspaper. As an extra measure, add a layer of bubble wrap around a few of the items and secure with packing tape. Pack dishtowels and any other soft household goods around fragile items.
If you have to struggle to lift any box, remove some items and put them in a separate box. Secure all flaps of the box with packing tape. Write the general contents of each box on the outside with a black marker.
