How to Keep Yourself Entertained During Long Rides

A long car ride can seem like an eternity, especially when the destination is much anticipated. Thanks to modern technology, there are not many things you can't do in a car that you can do at home. With a little preparation and some electronic gadgets, the ride can go from dreaded to just part of the fun of going on a trip. It is important to note that all of these entertainment ideas apply to passengers only. Drivers should be focused on the road at all times.

Instructions

    • 1

Invest in a portable DVD player for the ride. Watching a movie burns a couple of hours easily. Have some titles on hand that you wanted to watch, but hadn't got a chance. Now is the time.

    • 2

Get a portable gaming system, like the Nintendo DS or the Sony PlayStation Portable. Portable game technology now makes games as engaging as home systems. Playing a game can really make the time fly by on the road.

    • 3

Get some work done. Take any homework or unfinished business from the office on the road. With a laptop computer, there is no reason you can't be just as efficient on the road as at home. If a laptop isn't available, use a smartphone to check and respond to emails and keep up with social networks.

    • 4

Watch television with special apps if you have a smartphone such as the iPhone or Android series. 3G networks allow streaming of television shows directly to the device. Catch up on old favorites or check out a new show while you have the extra time to burn.

    • 5

Read a book. This can be a traditional book, or the digital variety that is enjoyed by thousands of Kindle and Nook users. Many people like the idea of reading books but find it difficult to fit it into their busy schedules. There is no better time than when you are taking a long ride.

    • 6

Sleep. Catch up on what you've been missing. Stretch out in the backseat and close your eyes. Drift away to dream. The ride will be over before you know it, and you will be better rested for the activities ahead.
