Take a vacation. Parents, take a vacation. The kids need you and you need a vacation. Plan your annual vacation around the Spring Break holiday. Go to place that is family friendly and away from college students. Try Great Wolf Lodge or other resorts that cater to families. Spend time together.
Sign the kids up for another activity. As if your life isn't busy enough, add more to your to-do list. Sign the kids up for a week-long soccer camp, dance camp or cooking camp. There are camps for every hobby out there. And if there isn't, start one. Spend time with the kids and start a rock hunting club with other lonely kids in the neighborhood.
Work on a science fair project. There are always things that the kids are behind on or you have been too busy to handle. Take a week off and work on the project with the kids. If you don't have a science fair coming up, go to the store and get some science experiments. There are all sorts to choose from. Keep the kids busy doing fun school work.
Get books. Teach the kids the joy of reading. Buy comic books, chapter books, or any book your child will read. Get him started on a new hobby. Let him see you reading, too.
Plan a reward for the kids that last weekend of vacation. Have them work toward it all week. Reward good behavior and have happy busy kids on spring break.
