Spring break in Florida is notorious. It's so overwhelming for the local population that in 1985 Fort Lauderdale passed legislation to restrict parties. The crowd then moved to Daytona Beach, where they passed similar legislation. Today, South Beach is one of the favorite spring break locations. If you want to have spring break in South Beach, you need to know the lay of the land.

      Snag a spot on Ocean Drive. For your first day in South Beach, sit along the famous street. Find the palms near the beach and people watch. Groups of potential new acquaintances travel on this street. Spending spring break in South Beach requires you to at least see Ocean Drive.

      Eat some lunch at the famous restaurants. The Clevelander, Mangos and the News Cafe are all on Ocean Drive. These are some of the places you can tell folks back home about.

      Watch for fashion shoots. Many fashion photographs are taken in South Beach. Ocean Drive is one popular spot, but other streets are used as well. You might even be discovered over your spring break visit to South Beach.

      Visit Collins Avenue, lined with historic Art Deco hotels and a few bars. If historic hotels are of interest, another site is the Carlye Hotel on Ocean Drive. This landmark has been used for films, TV and fashion shoots. The 1980's TV series "Miami Vice" was shot in South Beach, with Ocean Drive appearing in many scenes.
