Custer State Park has a variety of campgrounds, where you can camp in a forest, near a stream or next to a mountain lake. Rustic campgrounds cost $16 to $21 per night (2009 prices), plus $4 more for electric hookup. You must pay the park entrance fee of $28, which can be used throughout the year.
Custer State Park also offers a number of camping cabins for $45 a night. These include electricity.
Cabins, campsites and picnic shelters can be reserved 90 days in advance. Lodges can be reserved starting Nov. 1 for anytime the following year.
There are junior naturalist programs for kids, evening campfire programs, outdoor cooking demonstrations and guided nature walks.
You will likely see grazing bison; there is a herd of 1,500, one of the largest in the world. Other wildlife include pronghorn antelope, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, deer, elk, wild turkeys and burros.
