The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Highway Administration maintains an online database that links you to the DOT website in each state. These state websites feature real-time road and weather conditions. Searching road and weather conditions allows you to check for weather and construction-related issues you may encounter on specific highways and roadways across the United States.

      Go to the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Traffic and Road Closure Information tool at fhwa.dot.gov/trafficinfo. Or, you can find a link to this tool in the resources section of this article.

      Click on the state to search road and weather conditions in that state.

      Click on the "Department of Transportation" link for the specific state and click the specific website to go to the DOT website for that state.

      Click on the "Travel" link or button and select the "Highway Conditions" link. Enter the highway number you want to check road and weather conditions for and click the "Search" button. Alternatively, some states have clickable maps you can use to search for specific highways. The website will display any adverse conditions you may experience traveling on the highway including weather related problems.
