How to Check Past Weather

The weather is ever-changing and highly unpredictable. Many people often watch local news stations or read the newspaper to decide whether to bring an umbrella or a light jacket. Whether you desire to study old weather predictions for a school science project or simply because you enjoy meteorology, a wide variety of resources are available to aid your search.

      Use an Almanac. Borrow a Farmer's Almanac from a local library or log onto the Old Farmer's Almanac official website. This site offers a variety of topics and resources related to the weather, including blog posts, weather predictions and newsletters. Locate and click "Daily Weather History" to view current and past weather. Enter the location into the search field and select the month, date and year of the desired weather forecast. Click "Search" to view old weather forecasts.

      Access The Weather Channel or your local news station's websites to view current and past weather forecasts. For instance, when using The Weather Channel's website, input a city and state or five-digit ZIP code into the site's search field. Click "Find Weather" and select the "Month" tab to view past weather forecasts over a 30-day time period.

      Visit the reference section of your local library and speak with a reference librarian. Inquire about the availability of old or archived newspapers. Many libraries have a special collections section of the library solely devoted to newspapers. After locating the newspapers, view forecasts from specific dates by looking through the "Weather" section of each newspaper.

      Log onto The National Climatic Data Center's (NCDC) official website. This website offers a large archive of past and present weather and climate data. Choose from a variety of categories, such as past and present land-based, satellite and marine weather forecasts.
