How to Check Today's Weather

Today's weather conditions affect more than just what you wear while outdoors. Harsh weather conditions, such as high winds and precipitation, cause significant travel delays for those driving or taking a flight. A wide variety of resources allow you to check today's current and future weather conditions via your computer or mobile device. Such resources list temperature, wind, precipitation forecasts and other information, allowing you to learn about current weather conditions in your area in under a minute and for free.

      Learn about today's weather on the National Weather Service website. The website's homepage displays a map of the United States. Above the map are different category tabs, such as "Radar" and "Warnings & Forecasts." Click the tabs to view different maps. Type inside the "Local forecast by 'City, St'" box on the far left of the screen to review today's weather forecast for your city or town.

      Find today's weather forecast via The Weather Channel. The Weather Channel, a television station that's available via numerous cable and satellite providers, also has a website that lists the current weather conditions for your area. Forecasts include temperature, precipitation and hour-by-hour weather projections for the current day. There are also Weather Channel mobile applications that are compatible with a variety of smart phones.

      Use AccuWeather to check today's weather. AccuWeather lists the current temperature as well as the "RealFeal" temperature -- information regarding how the weather affects outdoor activities such as golf and farming and a radar map that displays precipitation around your current area. As with The Weather Channel, AccuWeather also offers mobile applications for mobile devices.

      Read today's weather forecast on the Intellicast website. Intellicast, like The Weather Channel, includes hour-by-hour local weather projections. These forecasts include temperature and precipitation predictions. Local forecasts also include in-depth weather information, such as dew point, humidity and visibility. The website also includes an interactive weather radar map that allows you to zoom onto a specific town or city. As of March 2011, Intellicast only offers an application for the iPad.

      Watch a local news broadcast. Such broadcasts offer detailed current weather reports that include temperature, precipitation odds, wind speed and other information. Some stations feature two weather reports on a news broadcast, one at the beginning and one at the end of the broadcast.
