Military Campgrounds in Central Florida

Recreational camping can be enjoyed by military personnel and their families at a lower cost if the camp site is on a military base. Many of the bases in Florida offer camping facilities to be used by military personnel, veterans and in some cases, civilian contractors. The facilities are typically far enough away from the main areas of the base that the campers can enjoy nature, but still not be too far from necessary conveniences.
  1. Army

    • The Army has camping facilities located on base at Camp Blanding, in North-East Florida. The use of these facilities is restricted to active duty, retirees and National Guard members of any military branch. This facility has tent sites, sites for pop-up campers and RV pad sites. They allow pets for a small daily fee and are open all year. Another location, Fort Benning, is in the central part of the panhandle in Destin, Florida. This site is available to active duty, retirees, reserves, National Guard and Department of Defense civilian employees. This facility has motel units, two and three bedroom cabins, tent sites and RV sites. Winter or off season rates are available from November through mid-March. This site is located on the Gulf of Mexico and has the white sand beaches and emerald waters the region is known for. For eligible campers, the commissary, BX and medical facilities of Eglin Air Force Base are close enough for convenient use. As with Camp Blanding, Fort Benning allows pets for a small fee in designated areas only.

    Navy

    • The Navy offers several camping facilities in many locations in Florida. In north-east Florida, camping sites are available at Mayport Naval Station and Naval Air Station Jacksonville. At NAS Jacksonville, the sites offered are RV and tent camping. Activities at this location include fishing, paddle boats, golf, shopping and water sports rentals. Leashed pets are allowed at the NAS campsite.

Pelican Roost RV Park is at Mayport Naval Station and offers both primitive tent sites and RV sites. Naval Station Pensacola offers camping at Oak Grove RV Park and Cottages. This location has one and two bedroom cabins, RV pads and eight tent sites. NAS Pensacola offers camping at the Blue Angel Naval Recreational Area which offers RV and tent site activities such as paint ball, boat rentals, mini-golf, disc golf and two 18 hole golf courses. The eligibility requirements to use these facilities are limited to active duty, retirees, reservists and Department of Defense civilian employees.

    Air Force

    • The Air Force has several recreational camping facilities in the state of Florida, such as Coon's Creek Recreation Area at MacDill Air Force Base near Tampa Florida. Located on the Gulf of Mexico, this facility offers boat rentals, tours and fishing opportunities with camp sites for both tent and RVs. Use of this facility is limited to Department of Defense personnel, retirees and reservists. Eglin Air Force Base in the panhandle offers camping facilities, as well.
