Dawsonville in north Georgia is conveniently located near dozens of area attractions and many great RV parks.



Campgrounds abound in the area, and so do campers, so reservations are always recommended, especially during autumn, when the trees change into their fall coats, turning the mountains into a spectacular panorama of fall colors.

    • Special events in the city of Dawsonville throughout the year are appropriate for the entire family, including Dawson Days in July, Veterans Day parade and celebration in November and the City Hall Tree Lighting and visit with Santa Claus in December.

      Visit the annual Mountain Moonshine Festival the fourth weekend in October and explore the history of Dawson County and what life was like during prohibition. Learn about "runnin' 'shine" and how the days of running from the law turned into running around a track for the enjoyment of NASCAR racing fans.

    Amicalola Falls

    • For RV camping in Dawsonville, you can't do better than Amicalola Falls State Park. At 726 feet, Amicalola Falls is the highest waterfall east of the Mississippi and one of the biggest tourist attractions in the state.

      The park has plenty of RV sites with a choice of 20 amp, 30 amp and 50 amp electrical service, grills and water at each site. Bath houses are conveniently located near campsites, and there is a dump station, picnic area, laundry and playground. Pets are welcome.

    Sawnee

    • Sawnee Campground is located on Lake Sidney Lanier in Cumming, about 15 miles from Dawsonville. Campers can fish, boat, hike and picnic. Open from April to September, the campground has 44 pull-through RV sites with electric and water hookups, and 11 sites with no hookups. Campers have access to showers, laundry facilities, dump station, boat ramp, playground and a swimming area. Pets are welcome.

    Bald Ridge

    • Bald Ridge Creek is open from March to October. Located in Cumming, about 12 miles from Dawsonville, the campground has a handicapped-accessible restroom, showers, a boat ramp and dump station. All 82 campsites have water and electrical hookups.

    Etowah River

    • Etowah River Campground is in Dahlonega, about 12 miles northeast of Dawsonville. The park has 1,800 feet of river frontage, perfect for the trout fisherman. Pan for gold or go tubing on the Etowah River, then freshen up at the bathhouse while the kids cavort on the playground.

      The camp has sunny or shady RV sites, with 62 full hookup pull-through sites. Pets are welcome.

    Twin Lakes

    • Twin Lakes RV Park offers 130 sites on 50 acres, with two lakes for catch-and-release fishing, picnic tables and horseshoe pits. A dump station is available. Buy propane at the office weekdays. A laundromat and grocery store are within a mile of the campground.
