Camping in Georgia

Forty-one Georgia State Parks offer more than 2,700 campsites. First-time campers, experienced backpackers, and pets can spend the two-night minimum stay relaxing in tent-only areas, RV pull-through sites, primitive camping and group camping areas. Most sites include laundry facilities and sell camping supplies. Walk-in sites are wooded campsites where a tent pad, picnic table and fire ring are provided. There is usually no water or electricity access, or garbage containers, however, a comfort station, water spigot and parking area is within walking distance. Platform sites are covered areas that prohibit tents; visitors may use sleeping bags and picnic tables and fire rings are provided. Bathhouses are within walking distance. Pioneer sites are private campsites designed for organized groups such as Scouts. All pioneer sites come with pit toilets, most have water spigots, covered picnic shelters and grills. These areas will not accommodate RVs and trailers. Backcountry sites are undeveloped sites designed for backpackers. Only a few parks have primitive campsites that do not require a long hike.
