Many of Wisconsin's top-rated campgrounds offer not just hiking, fishing and swimming, but also have kid-friendly attractions such as water slides, pools and special events to keep them entertained during their stay.
  1. Bear in Mind

    • Rated by Woodall's Publications as one of the best campgrounds in Wisconsin in 2012, the kid-friendly Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park has far more than just tents and swings. Near Warrens, Wisconsin, close to the Interstate 90 and 94 split, the 200-acre site features water slides, a winding river, several pools, a fishing pond, a swimming pond and a clubhouse. Programs for kids include arts and crafts, and puppet shows, while entertainment for the entire family includes live music by bands and choirs. Accommodations available include campsites and cabins.

    A Devil of a Good Time

    • Travel roughly 20 minutes northwest of Madison to find Wisconsin's largest and most visited park, Devil's Lake State Park. Listed in Wisconsin Trails as Wisconsin's Best Family Campground in 2012, the park has a 360-acre lake with two beaches for swimming and canoeing, and a concession stand for necessities and treats. Venture to nearby Baraboo for outings at its circus and train museums, or stay in the park to walk the 29 miles of hiking trails. The park is open year-round.

    Forts and Fun

    • Uniquely situated on a functioning military base, the Pine View Campground on Fort McCoy in south central Wisconsin has plenty for the entire family to enjoy. Fishing, swimming and boating are available thanks to a trout stream and lake on the grounds. During the winter, the Whitetail Ridge ski area offers skiing and tubing. Mini golf, shuffle board and playgrounds can be enjoyed in milder months, while year-round indoor activities include bowling and laser tag. The campground is open yea- round with cabin rentals available.

    Head North, Young Children

    • Hayward, in northern Wisconsin's Sawyer County next to the Namekagon River, is home to the Hayward KOA campground. The secluded Northwoods area still offers an exciting array of activities for the whole family, with a 300-foot water slide, giant jumping pillow and heated pool. During the summer, the campground hosts Watermelon Olympics, clowns and treasure hunts. Take the kids fishing, canoeing or tubing down the river. Tent and RV sites are available, as well as cabins and lodges.
