Stanislaus National Forest is more than 800 miles of year round family fun. Enjoy camping, picnicking, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, snowmobiling, mountain biking, and more. Children can build sandcastles on the sandy beaches or wade in cool streams. Water activities include rafting and canoeing. As of August 2010, admission to the park is free but there is a fee for overnight camping. According to the USDA, camping fees are $8 to $20 based on amenities at the campsite.

Dragoon Gulch is 2.5 miles of trails in the Mother Lode's Oak Woodlands. Children will discover nature and walk in a loop that shows off both the city and the mountains. Multiple paths vary in difficulty from easy to strenuous. According to the Sonora website, admission is free and parking is available at the Woods Creek Park. Restrooms are at the entrance, and Dragoon Gulch is open from dawn to dusk. Dragoon Gulch is ADA accessible for those with disabilities.

49er Rotary Park, lovingly called the "Heaven for Kids", is located across the street from the Tuolumne County Library. Children enjoy playing on the playgrounds, climbing and jumping. Older children enjoy skating at the skate park. This park belongs to Tuolumne County.
