Instructions

Decide if you'll be camping in a tent or in an RV. There's even a campground that offers tipi camping (At Boulder's Edge Tipi Retreat). Many of the campgrounds in the Hocking Hills region offer both tent and RV camping. However, some only have tent sites. Some tent sites such as Hocking Hills Campground only offer primitive campsites. Happy Hills Campground offers amenities such as a camp store, hot showers and electrical hookups.

Choose the number of nights you'll be staying. Do you want to make a week-long vacation or just quick, weekend getaway? Consider your budget while deciding this and check campground rates. Most campgrounds in the area offer very reasonable prices, much lower than you'd find at a hotel.

Select the campground where you wish to stay. Hocking Hills is home to numerous campgrounds including Caveman Retreats, Hocking River RV Park, Spotted Horse Ranch, Three Reasons Farms, Top O' The Caves Resort, AW Marion State Park, Burr Oak State Park, Lake Hope State Park and Tar Hollow State Park (see References). Research each park first so that you'll get an idea of the different experiences and amenities that each has to offer. If you're staying for several nights, maybe you'll want to try out a different campground each night.

Call and make a reservation. Even though all sites don't require this, it's still a good idea since it ensures you a spot.

    • 5

Pack all the supplies you'll need. While a number of the campgrounds in Hocking Hills have on-site stores where you can pick up items you may have forgotten, it's still a good idea to be prepared ahead of time. Bring sleeping bags, dishes, matches, a camp stove and any other items you need to make your stay comfortable.
