Cabin Camping in Central Texas for Families

The Texas Hill Country--also known as Central Texas--has become a vacation area for families as the area sees a spurt of growth. The many small towns in the area have begun to promote themselves as tourist attractions and are doing well in the endeavor.

Whether you want a secluded cabin in the woods, a fishing place near the water or an active dude ranch, the Texas Hill Country has it.
  1. Types

    • Consider a cabin at a dude ranch, such as the Rancho Cortez at Banderas, Texas, near San Antonio. Here you may camp in a family cabin and plan nearly any kind of vacation you would like. Cabins have two or three bedrooms and one or two baths, with a full kitchen. Meals are included in some packages.

      You can work on the dude ranch, ride horses on a trail, go on hayrides, hike and go tubing and fishing. This ranch also has a fitness program with a personal trainer and exercise activities.

    Water

    • The Texas Hill Country has a lot of rivers and lakes that tourists use. There are many campsites, and many areas have cabins.The Lake Whitney Marina at Juniper Cove has cabins available near the water or in the woods. The cabins have two or three bedrooms. All your boating needs and equipment are available at the marina, including boat rentals. This marina also offers indoor fishing for guests.

    In the Woods

    • Another option is to camp in the woods in a cabin. One such example is Pepper's Cabins near Sanibal, Texas. It is on the Sanibal River and has 120 acres of woodlands where the cabins are located. The cabins are furnished and have two or three bedrooms, full bathrooms and kitchens. These cabins are spread out and secluded. There are walking trails and many scenic areas in the hilly area around the river. Fishing and boating are available.

    Towns

    • When considering a family vacation, don't forget about the small towns of Texas, such as Wimberley. Wimberley is close to Canyon Lake and the Blanco and Guadalupe rivers. All of these have plenty of cabins nearby and offer boat rentals as well as guided water activities. Arts and antique shopping are available in Wimberley and other small Texas towns in the Hill Country. The town is halfway between Austin and San Antonio, making an adventure into either city something that could be easily done in one day.

    Considerations

    • Central Texas has many campgrounds available, and many have cabins. Many towns also have cabins. Check online and in magazines to find a cabin for a family vacation.
