Campgrounds in Hernando County, Florida

Hernando County is located along the north-central Gulf Coast of Florida. The county is 589 square miles, 111 of which are on the water. In 2006, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated a population of 165,409 living within the county. Because of its warm climate and location, the county is known for tourism and drawing campers to the area to enjoy the sunshine and near-tropical climate.

    • Camper's Holiday Travel Park is located in Brooksville, just 35 miles from Tampa and 60 from Orlando. The campground has 66 paved and shaded RV sites available and is situated on a lake. It also has a heated pool, recreation hall with air conditioning, shuffleboard, horseshoes and Wi-Fi available. Each lot costs $30 per night for two people. Each additional person older than 12 is $2 extra, and electricity is available for $3. Up to two pets are welcome per lot.

    Holiday Springs RV Resort

    • Holiday Springs RV Resort is a 35-acre adult-only semi-retirement community with 300 permanent sites and 38 RV sites available. The campground has a freshwater spring swimming pool, as well as a spring stream that runs alongside the park's abundant trails, which lead to the community's lake. The campground also features a 5,000-square-foot clubhouse, shuffleboard, horseshoes, bocce ball, and a TV and game room. The site is only 44 miles from the Tampa International Airport and 40 miles from the St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport. Hernando Beach is 7.5 miles away.

    Lakewood Retreat Christian Camp and Conference Center

    • Lakewood Retreat Christian Camp and Conference Center has an array of sites available, including motels, lodges, cabins and campgrounds. The camp is able to accommodate large groups. For example, each motel room has one queen and two twin beds.

      Each lodge has a full kitchenette minus a range, and most rooms have a full bed and four bunk beds, with some lodges able to accommodate 100 sleepers. The cabins are built in pairs, and each cabin has 12 bunk beds, heat and air conditioning. Cabin amenities vary, and only some cabins have bathrooms and showers. Those without are a short walk from the bath house. Campgrounds sites include tent, RV and pop-up spots. Water and electric are available at many of the sites.

      A dining hall is available for guests and seats up to 185 people. Meals must be pre-purchased, and 24 people must have reserved spots for the dining hall to open. Meeting rooms also are available and have capacities ranging from 40-200.

      The campground, which is geared toward all Christian denominations, prohibits pets, alcohol, drugs and firearms. Quiet times are from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., and no boat trailers are allowed.
