Seminole County, Florida, covers an area of lakes and forests north of metropolitan Orlando and south of Deltona. The county provides many opportunities for recreation, including hiking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, biking, birding and horseback riding. Sanford, the county seat, has a historic downtown with shops, cafes and a river walk. Three campgrounds in Seminole County and another in Lake County are good bases for exploring the area.

    • Town and Country RV Resort, 7 miles west of downtown Sanford, offers campers a choice of shaded or sunny RV sites with full hookups. Amenities include laundry facilities, wireless Internet, a swimming pool, pool tables, shuffleboard courts and horseshoe pits. Campers may also participate in planned activities such as golf excursions, fishing contests, arts and crafts, and group meals. Town and Country offers easy access to Interstate 4, making it a convenient base for visits to the Orlando and Daytona areas. Seminole Towne Center Mall is within 2 miles of the park.

    Twelve Oaks RV Resort

    • Twelve Oaks RV Resort, 7 miles west of downtown Sanford, has tent, trailer and RV sites with full hookups. The park also has scheduled activities that include potluck lunches, music, dances, movie nights, pool parties, bingo, crafts and exercise classes. Twelve Oaks is a good option for those wishing to visit Lower Wekiva River Preserve State Park, home to many species of wildlife, including black bears, foxes, possums, raccoons, alligators and armadillos. Lower Wekiva has no camping facilities except primitive equestrian sites. Twelve Oaks also provides convenient access to Derby Park, the Magnolia Plantation Golf Club and Lake Monroe Wayside Park.

    Wekiva Falls KOA

    • Wekiva Falls KOA, 12 miles west of Sanford in Sorrento, Lake County, has campsites for tents and RVs. RV sites have full hookups, cable TV and wireless Internet. Tent camping is available in the main campground, with or without water and electrical hookups, or in a primitive camping area along the river. Park amenities include a snack bar, picnic pavilion, swimming pool, three-story inflatable water slide and playground. The park also offers opportunities for fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Scheduled activities include bingo, potluck dinners, crafts, game nights, quilting, karaoke and horseback riding.

    Wekiwa Springs State Park

    • Wekiwa Springs State Park is 18 miles southwest of Sanford near Apopka. The park has opportunities for swimming and snorkeling in Wekiwa Springs, a crystal clear pool that remains 72 degrees year-round. Other activities available at the park include canoeing, kayaking, biking, birding, horseback riding and hiking. Tents, RVs and trailers are welcome in the park's full-service campground, which offers water and electrical hookups, fire rings, grills and picnic tables. Tent campers are also welcome at Camp Cozy, a primitive campground accessible by a 3.5-mile trail through a wilderness area. Wekiwa Springs also has a primitive equestrian campground.
