Search online for student hostels in or near the first region you plan to visit. Review the websites to determine what type of offerings you are searching for. Most hostels offer dorm-like facilities that can house around a dozen or more students, and all have some sort of bathing facilities. Kitchen or eating options should also be considered.
Check reviews posted by other student travelers. These may appear on a hostel's website, if it has one, or on travel sites. Pay close attention to reviews that mention similar things, such as poor service, cleanliness, treatment of student travelers and the area. If several reviews reveal things about the hostel that you are not comfortable with, remove that hostel from your list.
Book online. Choose your room style. Most hostels come are dorm-style that house many travelers or private/semi-private that have only two or three beds per room. Also select the number of student travelers in your group. Most hostel fees are per traveler per night and range between $15 and $45. Select the date and number of nights you will be staying. Hit submit.
Pay your security deposit. This can range from between 10 percent and 50 percent of your room charge, and it holds your room in case the hostel becomes busy. You'll be required to enter your account information. Most hostels take major credit cards; some take PayPal or other payment venues. Many hostels have a cancellation fee if your reservation is not cancelled before 24 hours to 48 hours before your expected arrival time.
