Youth Hostels in Casablanca

First popularized by Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in the World War II classic film, "Casablanca," this city on Morocco's Mediterranean coast has since flourished in its starring role as the country's economic capital. Established in 1906 with a population of 20,000, the cosmopolitan port city is now home to more than 3 million residents. Many area hotels cater to youth travelers, and dozens of restaurants and shops dot Casablanca's bustling streets.
  1. Hôtel Central Casa

    • Nearly all the materials used to build the Hassan II Mosque came from Morocco.

Winner of the 2010 HostelBookers Award for Excellence, this accommodation is located in the heart of the city's medieval car-free quarter. Each of the Hôtel Central Casa's 32 recently renovated guest rooms is furnished in the traditional Moroccan style and includes a satellite television. Some rooms also provide a balcony, which overlooks the sea and the harbor. The hotel hosts a small restaurant and coffee shop, as well as a roof-top terrace. Luggage storage is offered upon request, and Internet access is available. There is no curfew at Hôtel Central, so guests are free to come and go at their leisure. The Hassan II Mosque is just minutes from the hotel. Completed in 1993, this mosque is the largest in Casablanca. It sits on a platform over the Atlantic Ocean, and part of its floor is constructed of glass so worshipers can kneel directly over the sea.

    Hotel Amoud

    • Located in the heart of the city, Hotel Amoud is near both the medina, or historic district, and the Place Mohamed V, Casablanca's main square. This newly opened 52-room hotel offers basic rooms with free Wi-Fi access and flat-screen televisions. Baggage storage, laundry services and self-catering facilities are available, and the hotel does not impose a curfew. The Hotel Amoud is just over three miles from the Villa des Arts. Located in a converted art deco building near the Parc de la Ligue Arabe, the exhibition center showcases a rotation of exhibits that highlights contemporary Moroccan and international art.

    Hotel Astrid

    • The Hotel Astrid is nestled on a side street just south of the city center. This budget accommodation offers 27 basic dorm-style rooms, each furnished with a television and private bathroom. A handful of rooms also include balconies that overlook the streets below. Wi-Fi Internet access is available in the hotel's lobby, and laundry and luggage-storage facilities are available. A small cafe serves breakfast and light snacks through the day, and no curfew is imposed at the Hotel Astrid. Nearby attractions include the Hassan II Mosque, Old Medina and the resort location of La Corniche. Built along Casablanca's coastline, the area is home to swimming pools, authentic eateries, beaches and upscale nightclubs.
