Ogunquit is the native Abenaki Indian name for "coastal lagoon," a feature that can easily be seen from many vantage points in the town. There Is a channel into the lagoon with a sand bar that is largely covered at high tide, and crossing the Josias River you will see one of the state's most photographed sites, a footbridge that manually opens to allow yachts and other tall boats to pass through into the small harbor. There are a number of options for eating in Ogunquit, including the Front Porch Restaurant, Bessie's, Gypsy Sweetheart's Restaurant & Bar and Maxwell's Pub, all of which are close to the center of town and about a five-minute drive from the resort.
InnSeasons publishes a weekly synopsis of local area events for the convenience of its guests. Golfers can make use of a number of golf clubs close to the town, including the Cape Neddick Country Club, Old Marsh Country Club and Sanford Country Club, all three less than 10 miles from town. Less than five minutes away is the Wonder Mountain Fun Park, an absolute must if you have kids. One of the new features here is a maze that sometimes changes from one week to the next. One of the big activities when you visit this seaside town is fishing, and you'll find a number of options for deep sea fishing, cruising and yachting in town.
