Haunted Savannah Inns & Hotels

Founded in 1733, Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia. Located on Georgia's east coast next to the Atlantic Ocean, Savannah draws millions of visitors who want to explore the city's rich history, enjoy its beautiful architecture and for some, see an apparition or two. Savannah is considered by many to be one of the most haunted cities in the U.S. Visitors looking for ghostly encounters can start at some of the haunted Savannah inns and hotels where ghosts are regular guests.

  1. 17 Hundred 90 Inn

    • Named for the year it was built, the 17 Hundred 90 Inn is Savannah's oldest inn and the only one with a lounge and full service restaurant. Guests who stay in one of 14 rooms at 17 Hundred 90 Inn will find a fireplace, private bath, period furniture, original brick walls and slate floors and possibly the ghost of Anna Powers. According to a rumor in the inn's history, in the early 1800s, Anna Powers fell in love with a married man. When he left for work as a seaman, a distraught Anna committed suicide by throwing herself from one of the inn's third floor balconies. Another rumor claims the seaman's wife became jealous and helped Anna over the balcony. Either way, some 17 Hundred 90 Inn employees and guests claim to have seen Anna's ghost wandering around the inn and restaurant and say she is quite fond of room 204.

    Kehoe House

    • Kehoe House was built in 1892 as a residence for William and Anne Kehoe and their 10 children. Staff and guests have reported hearing children running through hallways when none were present, seeing children in rooms and then seeing those children vanish and seeing doors open by themselves. Rumor has it the Kehoe's had twins who died in the house and they may be haunting it. Guests who aren't bothered by an extra presence or two will find 13 rooms in Kehoe House. Each has European lines and antique chandeliers and includes a gourmet breakfast.

    Eliza Thompson House

    • Built in 1847, Eliza Thompson House has 12 guest rooms in its main house and another 13 guest rooms in the carriage house. Guests will enjoy modern bathrooms, bathrobes, complimentary breakfast and perhaps the company of someone otherworldly. Guests inside Eliza Thompson House and people passing by report seeing a Confederate soldier looking out of a window or sitting on a sofa. Others have reported hearing a child laughing when no children were around. Ghosts at Eliza Thompson House seem especially drawn to room 132.

    Olde Harbor Inn

    • Built in the 1890s as an oil company building, Olde Harbor Inn didn't become a hotel until 1987. The historic building has 24 one- and two-bedroom suites which include an efficiency kitchen, bathrobes, complimentary breakfast and complimentary wine and cheese each evening. Guests may also encounter the inn's resident ghost, named Hank by employees. According to legend, an employee of the oil company may have died in a fire at the building in 1892. Inn employees and guests have smelled cigar smoke when no one was smoking, seen things move and heard coins dropping. Hank, they say, is to blame.
