North Carolina is full of beautiful scenery as well as historic hotels and inns. Many of these places were built long ago and have a long and interesting history. Hauntings have been reported in many of them and some have been tested by paranormal investigators. Visitors to these inns will enjoy the thrill of staying in a haunted building overnight, even if they do not encounter a ghost.
The Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa is a luxurious inn that is nestled into the mountains of Asheville. It was built in 1913 and renovated in 1988. It is said to be haunted by a lady in pink who fell from the Palm Court Atrium in the '20s and remains to this day. The most activity has been reported in room 545. Both employees and guests have claimed to feel unexplained cold chills and see a smoky pink apparition. The lady in pink is said to be a gentle spirit and has not caused any harm to visitors. The inn has wireless Internet as well as indoor and outdoor heated pools. There are several theme rooms available, such as the fabulous fifties, the swinging sixties and the Gatsby room, whose art deco theme is reminiscent of the Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire era.

The owners of the Inn on Main Street deny that the residence is haunted, but many unexplained things have happened. The original house was owned by a doctor who used it as both his home and an office. A blood stain that can not be removed is found under the tiles in a bathroom that was originally part of the operating room. The sounds of pictures falling from the walls and doors closing have been heard, but nothing has ever been found. The rooms at the inn are large and comfortable and include a home cooked breakfast that is easily adapted to suit various dietary needs.

The Carolina Inn, built by John Sprunt Hill in 1924, has had more than its fair share of spirits and otherworldly visitors. Many guests have reported seeing a heavy-set man walking down the hallway, and then swiftly disappearing. He has also been known to rattle doorknobs, looking for an open door. Guests have also been locked out of their rooms by a ghostly hand. Dr. William Jacocks, a former owner of the home, is said to be the spirit that roams. Other guests and paranormal investigators have reported spotting other apparitions that do not fit the description of the man who walks the halls.
