Norton is a small community located in northern Vermont. Situated on the Canadian border, and near Kingdom State Forest, this area boasts some of the finest snowmobiling country in the world. In addition to snowmobiling, fly fishing, kayaking, hiking, biking and water sports are all popular and plentiful in the region. Wildlife ranging from grouse and pheasant to deer and moose are abundant in the region, making northern Vermont a hunter’s delight.

    • Quimby's is a family friendly resort in the heart of the northeast Kingdom State Forest. Situated on 1,000 acres of beautiful forested land, this resort offers something for everyone interested in slowing down and enjoying nature. Kids can go for a hike with the complimentary counselors. If the day is rainy, they can head to the Nevin Brugger Rec Hall for a day filled with arts and games. For the grown-ups, there is time to relax on the front porch and just enjoy the tranquility. Water sports are plentiful as Quimby's is on Forest Lake. Guided fly fishing trips are also a popular activity.

      The resort offers 20 rustic cabins, some with kitchens, and all with wood stoves. In the summer, a lobster cookout takes place once a week. The main lodge has a fireplace, library, wireless Internet and a telephone available for long distance calls. Rates are different during the three seasons they are open.

    Pure Country Motel & Cabins

    • Pure Country offers several accommodation options. Three cabins come fully furnished with either two or three bedrooms and overlook Lake Wallace. Each can accommodate six to eight people. Efficiency housekeeping units sleep two to four people and come with a full size refrigerator and a stocked kitchen. Motel rooms have two double beds, satellite television and can sleep two to four people. One apartment is available and can sleep four to six persons.

    Clyde River Hotel

    • The Clyde River Hotel is situated on the Clyde River. The hotel was built in 1866 and was known as the Essex Hotel. The building remains much as it was then. Room offerings include fully equipped efficiencies and the “Grand Room” which has a full kitchen, bathrooms and sleeps 10. All rooms include free wireless Internet, cable television, telephones, air conditioning and refrigerators. The hotel also boasts Pickles Pub which offers dine-in or take-out. Fare includes spaghetti, sandwiches, seafood and steak.

Attractions in Island Pond include the Island Pond Historical Society and a restored railroad station. Canoeing and kayaking can be had on the Northern Forest Canoe Trail, a 740-mile water trail that begins in Old Forge, New York and passes through Vermont, Quebec and New Hampshire and ends at Fort Kent, Maine.
