The Village of Markdale, located in the Canadian province of Ontario, was established in 1846. It is located only two hours northwest of Toronto, three and a half hours northwest of Buffalo and three hours northwest of Niagara Falls. Markdale is home to 36 independent shops; much of the village's population are artists and artisans. In and around Markdale are many hotels, motels and bed-and-breakfasts.
The Talisman Resort Village offers five different types of rooms and suites, spread between several different on-site lodges. Rooms such as the Terrace, the Superior Terrace and the Summit Room come with either two double beds or one king bed, while suites such as the Summer Suite and the Hammer Suite feature either one or two bedrooms, with several queen beds and a king bed, as well as a separate living room and fireplaces. Guests can purchase single reservations or buy season passes. The resort offers skiing and snowboarding lessons for guests and their children.
The Jasper Stuart House offers five guest rooms with either single or queen beds and private bathrooms. The house has two floors; rooms on the second floor contain doors that lead to the outdoor veranda that wraps around the house. The hotel also offers an outdoor pool during the warmer months of the year. The lounge on the ground floor has a fireplace, as well as televisions with VCRs, CD and DVD players. In the summer, the surrounding area offers golf, hiking and bicycling. In the winter, the area is perfect for skiing and snowmobiling. Reservations must be for a minimum of two nights.
Holly Hill Manor has four rooms, all of which have queen beds and private en suite bathrooms. The house itself is billed as a "Grand Queen Anne style heritage home" dating back to the 18th or 19th century and is located on a well-landscaped property. In the summer, guests can enjoy any of several outdoor seating areas as well as admire the manor's gardens. In the winter, the Village of Markdale offers skiing as well as other winter sports. After a day of skiing, guests can enjoy the warmth of Holly Hill Manor's fireplace. The manor is open year-round but does not accept children.
Sunnylane Farm Getaway in Durham, Ontario, is located only about eight and a half miles from Markdale. The farm is a fully functional farm, whose guest house was built in 2008 on top of a wagon. From the room, guests have a view of a forest, a wetland, and the northwest pastures and gardens. Three adults or two adults with several children can sleep in the guesthouse at one time. The upstairs loft has a queen bed and a skylight, while the lower floor has a dining room and a living room with sofa and a television. For those wishing to camp, plenty of tent spaces are outside.
