West Dover is the gateway to Mount Snow, a major snow skiing area in southern Vermont. The Green Mountain National Forest is also nearby, but it is winter sports that draws the crowds. There are several resorts, hotels and motels, that cater to winter tourists in the area. The area is also popular for seeing fall foliage. State Highway 100 goes north to south through West Dover, and there are many hotels along this route.
The West Dover Inn has been serving travelers as a motel since 1846. The Inn was originally a stage coach stop, and today is a stop on the way to the ski slopes. West Dover Inn is two minutes from the base of Mount Snow. This Hotel has 12 rooms, which are outfitted with antiques and period pieces from the 1800s. The Inn has a restaurant and pub; live entertainment is offered on various nights, and usually takes place on weekends. There is no smoking and no pets. Breakfast is not included, but is made available at the restaurant.
The Mount Snow Mountaineer hotel is at the base of Mount Snow, and close to West Dover. The location makes it convenient to the slopes in winter and biking and hiking trails in summer. This hotel is on a 27-acre meadow with ponds and a walking path. The hotel has 27 rooms, all of which are non-smoking. Each room is decorated and outfitted with antiques. The Inn has an on-site restaurant with meals available throughout the day. Ski lifts are within easy walking distance, but a shuttle is still offered.
The Vintage Motel is a few miles south of West Dover, in Wilmington. This is an older motel. There are three economy rooms and13 deluxe rooms that have more amenities, and there is a Grand Suite, which has two rooms, a fireplace and three beds. A free breakfast is served on weekends and holidays. Snowmobiling is big in this area, and there is a trail in back of the inn, making for easy access. In the summer the snowmobile trails are used as hiking and biking paths.
The Horizon Inn, in Wilmington, is a more traditional motel, with two floors of rooms and ample available parking around the building. This motel is on Road 9, on the side of the Green Mountains and in the Mount Snow valley. The motel has an indoor heated pool, sauna and fitness room. There is a full lounge with a big-screen TV and seating available for 55 persons at the on-site restaurant, which means meals are easily accessible. The hotel is convenient to skiing and snowmobile areas.
