The Hamptons, New York, is an area on eastern Long Island that starts around Shinnecock Bay and ends at Montauk, about 100 miles from New York City. Today, Quogue, East Quogue and Hamptons Bay, west of Shinnecock Bay, are part of the Hamptons, although not considered as such in the 1970s. The beach clubs of the Hamptons are rather exclusive, but there are clubs where even those who rent are welcome. Amenities range from simple beach access to famed golf courses, with most falling somewhere in the middle.
Westhampton Bath & Tennis Hotel and Marina is a hotel that also has beach club memberships. The beach club includes access to the private beach with cabanas, an outdoor heated swimming pool, five tennis courts with a pro, and a fitness center with personal trainers. You can dock your boat here. There also are three restaurants and a day spa.

The Water Mill Beach Club, like many Hamptons beach clubs that want to remain exclusive, does not have a public website. Its amenities, besides access and parking at its spectacular beach, are two tennis courts and lockers. There is no restaurant or bar. Members rebuilt the clubhouse after it collapsed in a 1938 hurricane.

The Maidstone Club of East Hampton, begun in 1891, calls itself a family club. It was the first private beach club in the Hamptons, and remains one of the most private and exclusive. The golf course is a ranked seaside course. The Maidstone also has a private beach, Olympic size pool and tennis courts.
