Caja De Muertos is considered an uninhabited island, located five miles south of Ponce, Puerto Rico. Visitors can still visit the small island on the weekends by ferry which leaves from La Guancha in Ponce. The entire island is considered a nature reserve, which was turned into a protected wilderness area in 1980. Visitors usually stay in nearby Ponce before traveling to Caja De Muertos on the weekend to experience the islands mangrove forests, sandy beaches, coral reefs, caves and other natural inhabitants.
