South Mountain, part of the Phoenix Mountains Preserve system, spans more than 16,000 acres and is often considered as the largest municipal park in the country. South Mountain is home to 51 trails used for horseback riding, hiking and mountain biking.
The Arizona Grand Resort is on the northeast side of South Mountain. The resort has 740 rooms.
