Wheelchair Accessible Hotels in Disney

Walt Disney World is an especially accessible place for guests in wheelchairs. Many of the rides in the theme parks are built to allow wheelchairs to roll right on, all of the buses that provide transportation between the parks and resorts have a wheelchair lift, and guest services at each park offer free guidebooks for guests with disabilities. Additionally, all of the resorts at Walt Disney World have wheelchair accessible rooms, as well as special equipment that can be set up in rooms for guests with visual or hearing disabilities. Accessible bathrooms in the resorts are equipped with wider doors to allow wheelchair access, either a roll-in shower or a tub with handrails, accessible vanities and bathroom rails, while the sleeping areas can be equipped with adjustable or lower beds and bed rails.

  1. Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge

    • Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge offers rooms and viewing areas overlooking the resort's three private savannas, which are each filled with African wildlife including zebras, giraffes, wildebeest and African birds. The 66 wheelchair accessible rooms are available with a view of the parking lot, swimming pool or savanna, and each room is equipped with a refrigerator, coffee maker, table and chairs, hairdryer, ceiling fan and private balcony. Unlike most Walt Disney World resorts, all of Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge is within one building, making it easy to get from your room to the resort's restaurants, bus stop, gift shop or planned activities. The resort's zero-depth entry pool makes it easier for some guests in wheelchairs to enjoy the water.

    Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter

    • Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter is the smallest of Disney's moderate price category resorts, which means a shorter distance from your room to the pools, bus stops and restaurants than you may find at the other moderate resorts. Each room has a mini refrigerator, a coffee maker, a privacy curtain between the room and the vanity area outside the bathroom, an in-room safe and a hairdryer. One third of the resort's 1,000 rooms are on the ground floor, and 12 are specifically designed for disabled access. You can dine on quick service American food for breakfast, lunch or dinner in the resort's food court or have pizza delivered to your room with the touch of a button. The resort also features a Mardi Gras-themed pool, a gift shop, a lounge and an arcade. Guests of Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter Resort are welcome to use the amenities at the neighboring Disney's Port Orleans Riverside Resort, including additional swimming pools, a fishing hole and a full service restaurant.

    Disney's Polynesian Resort

    • Torches and tiki god statues line the pathways of Disney's Polynesian Resort, located right across the Seven Seas Lagoon from the Magic Kingdom. Lifeguards at the resort's volcano-themed zero-entry pool can provide you with a waterproof wheelchair that can roll right into the pool. During your stay you can dine on island-inspired cuisine with an Asian flair at the resort's three restaurants, book tickets for the luau dinner show, catch the Magic Kingdom's nightly fireworks from the resort's beach or watch the torch lighting ceremony each evening. In addition to the standard bus transportation to the theme parks, you can also access the monorail to the Magic Kingdom from the station in the resort's main building. The resort has 19 wheelchair accessible rooms, which are located in the Rapa Nui and Tokelau buildings and offer special amenities such as a second lower peephole in the door for guests in wheelchairs. Every room features two queen-sized beds and a daybed, a small refrigerator, a coffee maker, a desk, a table and chairs, an alarm clock and an in-room safe, and most rooms have private balconies or patios, some with a view of the lagoon or Magic Kingdom.
