Overwater Resorts in Fiji

Overwater resorts are hotels where the guest accommodation is provided in the form of bungalows that sit on stilts over the ocean. Fiji is an archipelago situated in tropical climates in the south western Pacific Ocean. Currently Fiji only has one overwater resort, the luxurious couples-only retreat Likuliku Lagoon resort. The resort's owners, the Ahura Group have declared that "the resort has set a new benchmark in luxury standards for Fiji."

    Accommodation

    • Accommodation is provided in bures (bungalows) on stilts in the lagoon. These bures are constructed in traditional Fijian style with detailed wood-works, all made from natural materials. The bures have a deck with a separate bathing pavilion where you can enjoy lagoon views from your bathtub. All bures have a king-size bed, air conditioning, music systems, phones, WiFi Internet connection, flat screen TVs and DVD players. There are 10 overwater bures available, and for those who prefer dry land, beachfront bures are also available and have similar facilities.

    Facilities

    • Leisure facilities include a spectacular horizon-edge pool with jacuzzi areas dotted around it. A spa enables guests to seek traditional Fijian massages and other beauty and body treatments. For dining, the resort has the centerpiece Fijiana restaurant with fresh and creative cuisine, and also the Dua Tale Bar and Lounge and the Massima Bar located on the arrival island. For activities, the resort arranges bush walks, nature hikes, and scuba diving courses and excursions on the coral reefs of Fiji.

    History

    • Likuliku means "calm lagoons" in Fijian. The resort location was an ancient safe harbor for canoes in times of tribal warfare. The area is described frequently in ancient Fijian mythology and is an important landmark to locals.
