Grand Falls-Windsor is located in central Newfoundland not too many miles from the North Atlantic Ocean. At one time Grand Falls and Windsor were separate cities, but they merged in 1991. The city is located on Trans-Canada Highway 1 in the province's wilderness area. Because of its proximity to the ocean, salmon play an important role in the city's economy. The city has several hotels and bed and breakfast inns to accommodate visitors.

The Carriage House Inn is a 12-room bed-and-breakfast establishment, with most of the rooms having names such as Dandy, Amigo, Coyote and Meg. Hill Road Manor is housed in one of the oldest buildings in town, which was built in 1938. The building still retains some of the original moldings and French doors, according to the manor's website. The hotel has a four-star rating from Canada Select. The property accepts children and "mature" pets. Rooms have standard amenities. The hotel is close to the Grand Falls Golf Course and hiking trails and is within walking distance of restaurants.
