The River Kwai in central Thailand is known for the Thai-Burma Railway, also known as the Death Railway, and its most famous section, The Bridge Over River Kwai. The bridge is one of Thailand’s major tourist attractions. The bridge was used as a supply line by the Japanese, who had it built by prisoners of war and civilian conscripts. More than 300,000 men died building the bridge. The bridge is in the town of Kanchanaburi, where most of the guesthouses back onto the river’s banks.
